Create an Order using the Order Entry Window

You can create an order using the Order Entry window.

 

 

To create an order using the Order Entry window, perform the following:
 

  1. Display the Order Entry window.

  2. From the Account drop-down list, select the account you want to use for the transaction.

  3. In the Symbol field, type the symbol of the security you want to buy or sell.
    NOTE
    : To place an order for an option, precede the symbol with a forward-slash "/"
     

  4. In the Quantity field, type the amount of securities to use for the transaction.

  5. From the Order Method drop-down list, select the method used to buy or sell the securities.

  6. From the Price Type drop-down list, select the type of order you want to place.

  7. In the Price field, type the price of the securities at which to execute the transaction.
    NOTE:
    This field will be unavailable if the Price Type drop-down list is set to Market (MKT) price.
     

  8. When placing a stop-market or stop-limit order, type or select the stop price in the Stop Price field

  9. When placing a trailing-stop order, type or select the trailing amount in the Trailing Delta field.

  10. From the TIF: (Time In Force) field, select the amount of time for the transaction to be valid.
    NOTE:
    For GTD orders, use the calendar control to select the last day the order will remain live.

  11. If you want to direct the order to a specific exchange for which there is no route button, click the Use check box so that a check mark appears and then type the exchange ID into the Exchange ID field.

  12. From the order type option buttons, select whether to buy, sell, short, or cover the order.

  13. Click the routing button for the exchange you want to use. If you want the system to automatically route the order, click the Auto button.

  14. The Order Confirmation window appears if the Confirm Orders feature is enabled..


     

  15. NOTE: The OK button of the Confirm Place Order window will appear in the following colors to indicate the type of transaction you are initiating:

  16. - Green OK button indicates you are placing a Buy order

  17. - Red OK button indicates you are placing a Sell order
     

  18. - Blue OK button indicates you are placing a Short order

  19. - Brown OK button indicates you are placing a Cover order
     

 
  1. Verify the transaction information is correct and click the OK button to confirm the order. The results of the order will appear in the Order Status window.

 

TIP: You can also add a speed key to quickly place an order.
